Line Noise and Wideband Services, Bond Clips
- A cable location is one of the largest causes of the not found
trouble of wideband services. The removal of one bond from a cable
will cause a large number of Wideband service to fault. Some will
recover right away and other will not recover until the Bond clip is
replaced.
- A bond clip not replaced correctly or not placed correctly when
the cable was spliced could, and in most cases does, cause reports
that come and go. To place a bond clip correctly you must.
1. Open cable and split sheath and aluminum at the point that
the clip is to be placed.
a. Do not make a tap that is folded down. This makes a weak spot in
the cable that will burn when the A/C current is present on the cable.
b. If you punch a hole in the sheath and Aluminum, make it at the
point in the split that the shaft of the bond clip will go
c. Slide the bond base plate under the Aluminum
d. Place 1 (one) ring of black tape only around cable to hold clip in
place.
e. Place top plate.
f. Place nut #1 and torque to 40 – 60 ppsi
g. Place the bond strap on shaft ( It must be #6 AWG or larger )
h. Place nut #2 and tourk to 40 – 60 ppsi
- After removing the bond strap from the cable. The repairman
should insure that all nuts are torqued to 40 -60 ppsi and the band
clip is placed correctly.
